Music is like an addictive drug that makes one feel great! Feeling good is exactly how I feel when I tune into Waiting At The Finish Line. The Journey starts a hallucinating dream about sitting in a 10-second bright fancy car and racing it to the finish line. Not everyone may have this experience it could be different for others like their favorite Indian or Harley motorcycle. One thing for sure is the toe tapping, pleasurable listening experiences, the listener receives while tuned into Waiting At The Finish Line.

Hi JD Welcome to Global Entertainment Mag. Congratulations on the release of your new CD Waiting At The Finish Line.

Thank you very much for the interview Tina!

My first question is what inspired you to write these songs?

I am a fan of motor sports (Cars - Motorcycles) and a lot of people like myself say that they like to drive to fast upbeat rock music so why not write some songs that inspire having a great time driving out on the open road or by sea and air..Its your choice!

I get the inkling they were based around living life in the fast lane, racing, and competition. Does everyone receive different thoughts about these songs?

Yes they do and that's why I leave it up to the listener to interpret and to form their own opinion with the new songs.

Did you collaborate with any other musicians to produce this album such as the instrumentals or the drums?

I hired a local drummer for the project who I had known for years..

How long did it take to produce this new CD?

It took 3 separate recording sessions based over 3 months and there are roughly 20 hours total invested into the CD..I work fast! lol

Did you have any help with the recording process, also the mixing and mastering?

Yes..The sound engineer at MSA Studios helped me out...His name is Gino Bailey

Is Waiting At The Finish Line being well received from your fan base internationally?

Yes...I am very happy with the sales of the CD and digital downloads including the airplay its receiving..The die hard fans and my new fans are enjoying a lot...The new fans are discovering my back catalog from the last 3 releases I have done!

What songs are hitting the charts or getting the most airplay on internet radio or mainstream radio?

The popular ones so far from my new cd is Thrill of the chase and High on the inside..People that hear all of the songs seem to enjoy listening and requesting them..Internet radio has been good to me with my music career...The DJ's and hosts have been cool in playing my songs on their shows..There are a few mainstream stations in my area who play my stuff from time to time....

How did you land the opportunity to become endorsed with Big Bends, Hot Picks USA, Sfarzo strings, Godlyke Dist.Inc and PRS Guitars?

I work very hard and try to stay consistent in promoting myself and my music plus having a positive and professional focused attitude will get peoples attention at the company's whose products you wish to endorse..You have to stand out from everybody else and I have been using the products I endorse and promote for years.....No half stepping here folks!

I do not know much about guitars, but I’m curious JD can you elaborate on your statement?

“What I look for in a workhorse guitar is unlimited tone, effortless playability, superior craftsmanship and 24 frets!”

As a working professional musician I need a guitar that can handle all styles of music that I play as well as sounding great and being reliable..PRS Guitars are the ones for me!

Can you tell me about your collaborations with The Debbie Caldwell Band based out of Delaware are you currently working on a CD with this band?

Debbie contacted me a few months ago and asked if I was available to work with her in her band since she wanted to replace her other guitarist...I was in between recording my new CD at the time and after talking with her and fine tuning some things I agreed to be her guitar player..Its been really fun and me and we hit it off as friends and as fellow musicians..The drummer on my new CD is now the new drummer in the band as well...The whole band is very versatile and some time down the road there will be a CD recorded!

I understand Acacia Entertainment is your own independent record label, do you help manage other musicians or bands under this label?

I only promote my solo career and my CD releases right now

As I was reading your bio I could not believe all the projects your involved with at the current time. Can you tell me about JD’s Riff Notes for Wild Child Magazine have you written any books yet?

I have yet to write a book yet but I have some ideas on paper though...JD's Riff Notes is my own music column that I write to share music tips, performance tips and music business savvy with my readers....It all comes from 30 years of experience!

Can you tell us about your career with BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) as a Member, Writer and Publisher?

BMI has been good to me in making sure I get my royalties from my music..I suggest everybody who calls theirself a professional to join up with BMI or ASCAP...

Has it been through BMI that you landed opportunities for your music to appear on the following? No...

1. Direct TV’s Metal Channel.
2. Dee Snider’s "House Of Hair" radio commercial.
3. "Rogg TV" videos.
4. The 2006 Spring Break episode of; "Date My Mom"(MTV Reality Show).
5. Emperor Multimedia CD-Roms "The Polishing Of Metal & The Recorded History Of Heavy Metal."
6. Versailles Records "Race Track Rock Volume 1,2 and 3" CD compilation.
7. Quintessence Webzine CD compilations.
8. Bandsbackstage CD compilations.

If not how did you land the opportunity for your music to appear on the above sources was it through friends, or collaborations with other musicians?

Hard Work, Determination, Networking and Staying Focused takes credit for those achievements..and having people believe in my musical talent helped out a lot too.

My space used to be a great networking tool, as was Facebook along with Reverbnation but these sites really do not seem to draw in the fans as much anymore. What is your opinion on this?

Every social networking site has its ups and downs but I have found that each one when used for promoting your music and finding fans works really well...Its worked for me that's for sure!

Do you think that it is important for bands today to network with many musicians and friends in the music business as possible to help get their names out there?

Networking is the key factor here and yes its very important..There's nothing wrong with doing it YOUR way by not networking but that can become a lonely road to travel and doors don't get open a lot...To each their own I say because some people are hard headed..lol!

Are you still teaching private guitar lessons and do you teach them online through You Tube?

Yes..I currently am still teaching guitar to students in my area but not on You Tube..I do refer to You Tube to check out and learn new guitar techniques though..

What are some of your goals or expectations you hope to achieve in the remainder of 2011/2012?

I am looking forward to pushing my musical career and playing style to a higher level than the year before..

Will you be completing any tours soon or playing any live shows?

Right now I am playing live around the beach resort areas of Maryland and Delaware with The Debbie Caldwell Band..We are looking forward to playing some gigs outside of the Maryland / Delaware area in 2012 to reach out to a wider fan base..Wanna book us for a gig? Then get in touch with me!

Thank you JD for completing this interview I look forward to receiving Waiting At The Finish Line.

A very addictive CD and I hope to see you play live in Ontario in the near future.
